Our Lake George trip was also early in the season. We headed to this park for our first Owners rally. We had a back-in site for our stay. There are tons of trees in this park, and the roads in the campground are all paved. One downside - this park is very hilly – we like to ride our bikes and we didn’t even really try here because no matter which direction you go, it’s up!

It is a beautiful area though. The campground has some really lovely parks and walkways. There are scenic views everywhere you look.

We went to the village of Lake George while we were there, and ate at a restaurant by the water.

Like the campground in Cooperstown, we would probably only do this one in the off-season….both because of the crowds in Lake George, and because of their normal prices. Even the off-season prices aren’t cheap. But if you are going to stay in Lake George, this campground would be a nice option for a few days.

Our trip to Hartwick Highland Campground was our first of the 2012 camping season. The campground had just opened on the 15th, so we arrived on their first weekend. We pretty much had the campground to ourselves, and the temperatures were mainly in the 60s during our stay.

The area that we stayed in was nice and open – all pull through sites, nice wide roads.

There was also a very large area that had cabins. Being so close to Cooperstown, they have a lot of groups that stay here – baseball teams etc.

The trip there was great – almost all highway; the directions were easy to follow. We had checked our route on Google Earth before we went, and we found that extremely helpful. The only part of the trip which was a little challenging was the fact that the last road to the campground, Seminary Road, was all uphill. But Max handled it with no issues!

We loved our site. A nice big pull-through site in an open field. Harry and I have had enough encounters trying to get around trees on our way in and out of sites, that we prefer open sites without trees. We have also heard too many stories from other rv’ers of problems with tree branches etc.

IMG_2066Harry and I are not baseball fans, but of course that is one of the biggest draws to this campground – it’s proximity to Cooperstown.

We were there during the off-season, and I was very glad. This town is very small, and I wouldn’t want to have to negotiate these roads during the  tourist season.

If you do go to Hartwick Highlands Campground, make sure to check out Brooks BBQ, a local favorite!

We will definitely be back, but it will continue to be in the off-season. We like not having to fight the crowds.
